'Under The Influence' is the 3rd album of 'Sky Rats', a songwriter based in the Midlands, whos writing skills have brought them success at various international competitions. From the very first track it was clear i was going to be listening to an enjoyable body of work.
Contrary to previous albums, this one has a much more acoustic and slightly softer feel to it. With a mix of mature acoustic guitar songs and some hooky little pop songs bubbling away, he manages to create a generally uplifting and warm vibe. That said, I am sure any success of the Sky rats will inspire budding songwriters to take on this approach which is not only melodic but maintains the attention of the listener.
Highlights include 'By Now' and 'High Sided'; songs that show an undeniable gift for melody and his charismatic voice, which is a trademark of his sound. 'Visitor' has a very bright and light feel to it and reminds of the catchy songwriting writing style of Jack Johnson.
This album is great for easy-listening music sessions where you just need an escape from the real world. To me there is no doubt that 'Sky Rats' has the right attributes to be very successful. The future for this act based on this EP is sounding bright and I look forward to monitoring their progress in the near future.
